Build a Windsor canopy bed – we’ll show you how
A canopy bed can be a great statement piece for your bedroom. We have put together an easy kit for those of you who want to build their own four poster bed for their home. This kit will help you put together a king size bed frame that is made of galvanised steel and Kee Klamp fittings.
As always with our projects, you only need an Allen key to put everything together. Due to the length of the tube and the general structure of this bed, it is recommended that you build this bed with a friend or family member.
Let’s get started!

Step by step guide
Step 1
Attach a Flange (61-6) to two of the bed uprights (Tube A).
This will help you build two posts for the bed. You will build the other two posts later in the process.
Step 2
For each bed post, slide a Side outlet tee (21-6) through the tube, fixing it at around 40cm away from the flange.
This will later help you build the bed sides. Right now, your uprights should look like this:
Step 3
Take the 150cm tube and slide 2 x Single socket tees (10-6), fixing them at equal distance from another. These will help you build the bed slats support later on.
Your Tube C should now look like this:
Step 4
Now connect your first two uprights by taking the 150cm tube (from step 3) and inserting its ends into the Side outlet tees (21-6) that you previously fixed on your 200cm uprights.
Here is what your bed frame should look now:
Step 5
Then build the bed sides by inserting new 200cm poles into your 21-6 fittings, on the side.
At this stage, your bed frame should look like this:
Step 6
It’s time to build the support for your bed slats!
Take 2 new 200cm tubes and slide one Single socket tee (10-6) through each, fixing it halfway through.
Make sure that the 10-6 tee is fixed facing down; this will form the bed support legs.
Step 7
Now take the 200cm tubes in step 6 and connect them to the bed frame on one side, by inserting one end of the tube into the 10-6 tees fixed on the 150cm tube.
At this point, your bed frame should look like this:
Step 8
Build the support legs for the bed!
In step 6, you fixed two 10-6 tees halfway through the bed slats support, one on each piece of tube. Now take your 40cm tubes and insert them through those 10-6 fittings.
Step 9
Add the flanges to the support legs:
Step 10
Build the rest of the frame by inserting the remaining 2 uprights into the 21-6 fittings at the other end and then connecting them with another 150cm piece of tube, as shown below:
Step 11
Now that your basic bed frame is set up, it is time to build the top of the bed!
Before attempting to do that, make sure that all the fittings are properly tightened.
Now take the four Side outlet elbows (20-6) and fix them on the top of each upright.
Step 12
Connect the top four corners of the bed with the remaining pieces of tube to create your bed top:
