New Angled Stair Fittings Coming Soon!

image

Well firstly I have to say that I am writing this post on my birthday, I am the first employee here at Simplified Building in the UK so the celebrations are in full swing, with the obligatory cakes, cards and jibes at my expense!

Imagine my surprise when our supplier informed me that they are releasing new fittings to make installation of handrail on stairs even easier, a great birthday present!

Having found a need at a local customer, I packed up the samples and attended site with Kee Safety’s product manager and performed the installation on our customers behalf to test them out.

Initial thoughts are that they are just what the doctor ordered, where you would need to use 2 fittings to start and stop a run once you start your desent from the landing, the new fittings do away with that requirement altogether.

We started by simply setting up the modules and stood them in place, this enabled us to adjust the system to ensure we could get the angle of the handrail just right before we set the uprights in place.

The first step was setting the landing area, this was done using the standard 10’s, 15’s ,20’s and 21’s and using the 62 as the base, we then set the new 325 and 326 to set the angle for the stair handrail, my first thoughts were there is a generous amount of adjustability within the fitting which makes installation so much easier, I can only imagine the struggles we would have had if the angle was set or if the dimensions were off by even a few mm!

We then positioned the next upright and used the new 427 top fitting and existing 30, now this is where the system impressed me, due to the tread/bolts on the stairs, the upright would not sit where we initially believed it would, a simple adjustment in both fittings quickly solved the problem and we were able to adjust the post into position to attain the angle required for the handrail, the rest was a simple case of adding the uprights and making minor adjustments for each rail to ensure the angle remained the same.

Once the uprights and rails were in place, minor tweaks to ensure everything was to our satisfaction we added the “D return” using the new 55 and 56 fittings, the entire process plus photos only taking about an hour, the final thing is to turn the base plates to be “inline” and to bolt down.

Final thoughts, I am very impressed with the new fittings, they include a high degree of flexibility, we did not have to cut any tube and only used basic tools to construct the entire system.

I am sure you agree our customers handrail looks great and I am looking forward to these new fittings becoming available to purchase soon, so watch this space!
